Languaging For Communication Excellence
At The Languaing Lab, if a linguist is a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), they abide by the framework for best practice set out in its Code of Professional Conduct, which is endorsed by the CIOL Council and is binding on all members, irrespective of grade.
According to the CIOL, the purpose of the Code of Professional Conduct is to provide members with a comprehensive framework for making decisions on ethical professional and business conduct, as well as to foster good professional relationships.
Effective communication, continuing professional development, and due impartiality are amongst the high standards set by the CIOL, and are to be pursued and maintained by qualifying language professionals. The series of general principles for proper conduct also serve as benchmarks for the responsible behaviour and integrity expected of a professional linguist.
In addition, the CIOL emphasises the importance of developing and demonstrating linguistic competence, professional skills, and subject expertise. The Code of Professional Conduct also includes standard procedures that are designed to afford protection to both members and the public.
